Metalworking Fluid Management Course
By Rebecca Lintow, CAE, Executive Director | TLT Headquarters Report January 2025
This course provides a comprehensive look at the latest techniques and practices that are sure to improve metalworking fluid operation.
STLE’s exclusive Metalworking Fluid Management Course, March 11-12 at Delta Philadelphia Airport Hotel in Philadelphia, Penn., is a two and a half-day education course that offers a solid overview of metalworking fluid (MWF) management and is tailored to provide industry professionals with a comprehensive look at the latest techniques and practices that are sure to improve their MWF operation.
For 2025, based on your feedback, we have split the course into two days with the first day focusing on foundations of MWFs and the second day a more advanced and science-based take. Each day will provide you with foundations, networking, strategies and case study discussions. Instructors for the course are experts in the field, including STLE member James Justice, staff materials engineer with John Deere.
Day 1 will feature foundational learning including topics like operations, chemistry, tank side additives, machine tool fluids system design, understanding and controlling MWF failure, condition monitoring and microbiology. Day 2 focuses on advanced topics, including fluid condition management, industrial hygiene and MWF toxicology, mist generation and concentrations, condition monitoring and microbiology microbe health effects, management technologies, microbial contamination control and wase treatment.
Registration includes the full PDF training book with presentation slides as well as instructor notes, assessments to be conducted to ensure understanding, MWFs case studies and a certificate of successful completion. You are able to purchase and attend one of the days or bundle both together. Members receive a discounted registration rate, as well as discounts on certification exams and other technical and educational resources on MWFs, so this is a great time to take advantage of STLE membership if you haven’t already. After the event, you can expand your learning with the STLE Certified Metalworking Fluids Specialist™ (CMFS) certification. This newly updated certification is for those who have met minimum standards of experience, knowledge and written requirements as established by the STLE Metalworking Fluids Certification Committee to provide technical consultation in the field of metalworking fluid management. Individuals should have a basic knowledge of fluid chemistry, machining processes, metallurgy, tooling, filtration and waste treatment. The upcoming Metalworking Fluids Management Course content fulfills part of the preparation for the exam, so you will be one step closer to achieving this distinguished professional credential.
