Bill Tuszynski,
Partner
The Unami Group LLC

What is your role at your organization?
I have been self-employed as a sales agent and consultant since 2016. I am a partner in The Unami Group LLC with my wife Rebecca, who is a technical writer and editor.

What products or services does your organization provide?
I am currently a sales agent for three companies, Functional Products, Desilube, and Van Horn Metz, selling a variety of additives and raw materials to formulators of lubricants and greases. I’ve also done a number of short-term consulting projects in market research, acquisition due diligence, and new product development for various clients.

How long have you been a member of STLE?
I’ve been a member of STLE for over 25 years. In addition to being a Member Ambassador, I have been a member of the Grease Technical Committee on multiple occasions. Most of my STLE activity has been in our local Philadelphia Section. I’ve been a past Chair and have been on our Scholarship Committee for over 10 years. I and am currently finishing a three-year term as Treasurer.

How has STLE helped you throughout your career?
Like everyone else, I had little knowledge of tribology and the science of lubrication when I came into the industry “before the turn of the century”. The technical content in TLT and other journals along with presentations at both Annual and Section Meetings has been an enormous help.

What is the greatest benefit you get from your STLE Membership?
Being able to build a network in the industry is probably the greatest benefit. Connecting and building friendships with with customers, suppliers, technical experts, academics, and even competitors is one of the best things about being an STLE member. As a volunteer, getting to work with competitors and have everyone set that aside to work for the benefit of STLE is fantastic.

Being on the Section Scholarship Committee has been great in meeting the professors and the amazing students who receive awards. Seeing them develop in their careers is highly rewarding.

What would you say to others looking to get involved with STLE?
Involvement in STLE has a very high Return on Investment. The benefits you get are well worth the time you put in. Research says that only about 25% of the membership in any organization is actively involved as volunteers. Make sure you are one of the 25% in STLE.
