1. Inside Face:
That surface of the inner case which faces the exterior of the lip-seal assembly.

2. Inside-Face Inner Diameter:
The inner diameter of the inner case of a radial lip seal.

3.  Lip Inner Diameter:
The inner diameter of the seal lip, measured with the spring installed.

4. Outer-Case Inner Diameter:
The inside, or smallest, diameter of the outer case on a lip-seal assembly.

5. Outside Face:
The surface of the seal case which is perpendicular to the shaft axis and which is not in contact with the fluid being sealed off.

6. Seal Outer Diameter:
The external diameter of a lip-seal assembly, which normally corresponds to the out diameter of the outer seal case. In a package-type mechanical face seal, the diameter which corresponds to the outside surface of the cup.

7. Seal Width:
The over-all axial dimension of the lip-seal assembly. This normally corresponds to the axial width of the outer seal case.

8. Shaft Diameter:
The outside diameter of the shaft at the axial location where the seal is mounted.
